The Original Delvin Castle, Delvin, County Westmeath. Original Painting
Discover the rich history of this medieval castle, believed to have been constructed around 1181 by the renowned Hugh de Lacy, Lord of Meath. This architectural marvel was a gift to his brother-in-law, Sir Gilbert de Nugent. Originally, the castle showcased a majestic design featuring a central rectangular block flanked by imposing five-storey circular towers at each corner. Today, visitors can witness the enduring legacy of this structure, although only half of it survives. The north-east section, along with its towers, was lost to time.
This exquisite painting, a blend of pen and watercolor, captures the essence of the castle's historical grandeur. Measuring 22.5 x 18 inches and elegantly framed, it's a testament to the castle's enduring allure.
